Remembering Diogo Jota A Tribute at AnfieldRemembering Diogo Jota A Tribute at Anfield

Diogo Jota, who joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, will be remembered during an upcoming match at Anfield. On Saturday, his sons, Dinis and Duarte, are set to accompany the matchday mascots as Liverpool takes on his former club, Wolves.

Tragically, Jota, aged 28, lost his life in a car accident in Spain in July, alongside his 25-year-old brother, Andre Silva. This match marks the first encounter between the two teams since Jota’s untimely death.

In the program notes for Liverpool’s final home fixture of 2025, manager Arne Slot expressed hope that the affection surrounding Jota could provide comfort to his family. “Reflecting on everything that has happened over the last 12 months ignites a rollercoaster of emotions. It is normal at this time of year to look back at everything that has occurred,” Slot remarked.

He continued, “This leads me to think especially of Diogo Jota’s family as they approach their first Christmas without him. It is not my place to suggest where they might find solace, but I hope that the love and affection Diogo inspired brings them some comfort.”

During his time at Liverpool, Jota made a significant impact, scoring 65 goals in 182 appearances and contributing to the team’s triumphs in the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022, as well as securing the Premier League title last season.

Before joining Liverpool, Jota spent three seasons at Wolves, initially arriving on a loan from Atletico Madrid in 2017, where he netted 44 goals in 131 appearances.
