The Hamburger Abendblatt reports that FC St. Pauli is gearing up for another attempt to re-sign attacker Morgan Guilavogui. The club’s leadership has designated his re-acquisition as a top priority in their January transfer strategies.

Guilavogui himself is eager to return to his former Bundesliga club, having played mostly as a substitute for RC Lens this season.

A younger sibling of former VfL Wolfsburg captain Joshua Guilavogui, Morgan was on loan at St. Pauli from RC Lens in the previous season. During his time with the newly promoted Bundesliga side, he emerged as the team’s leading scorer, netting 6 goals and contributing 8 points overall. To secure Guilavogui’s services, St. Pauli had exercised a €3 million purchase option included in his loan agreement.

Although Guilavogui technically became a St. Pauli player for a brief period, RC Lens subsequently chose to activate their own €4.5 million buyback option included in the initial contract.

In the meantime, the Bundesliga club has brought in several other strikers, including Ricky Jade Jones, Martijn Kaars, and Andreas Hountondji, to fill the gap left by Guilavogui. However, this trio has faced injury challenges, complicating matters.

This season, Guilavogui has made only 14 appearances for his Ligue 1 club, most of which were brief, and has scored just one goal. According to the Abendblatt report, Lens is understandably disinterested in pursuing another loan arrangement. With Guilavogui’s current estimated market value at €4 million, he will need to be purchased outright.
