Nigeria has secured its place in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations, becoming the second team to qualify after Egypt. The team achieved a flawless record with six points from victories over Tanzania and Tunisia, positioning them favorably for the knockout stage of the tournament. Their next match will be against the third-placed team from Group A, B, or F, scheduled for January 5 at 20:00 in Fez.

This advancement means that Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke will miss the upcoming match against Levante, taking place on January 4 at the Sánchez-Pizjuán. The quarter-finals are set for January 9 and 10, with the semi-finals on January 14, culminating in the final on January 18.

Akor Adams made a notable contribution in the match against Tunisia, starting alongside Victor Osimhen and being substituted in the 79th minute for fellow Sevilla player Chidera Ejuke. Adams has become an essential player for coach Éric Chelle and has gained recognition through his performances at Sevilla. After scoring in victories against Rayo and Barcelona, he received his first international call-up, making his debut on October 10 against Lesotho, where he scored as a substitute. Since then, he has participated in five of the six matches he has been called up for with Nigeria.

The talented forward left for the Africa Cup of Nations in December, having delivered his best performance for Sevilla with a goal and two assists against Oviedo. Sevilla is now concerned about the impact of his absence when league play resumes. Ejuke also contributed significantly to that match by scoring a stunning goal. As Akor captures the limelight, Sevilla is actively searching for a new striker.
