Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has criticized manager Ruben Amorim for his assertion that last year’s squad was the “worst” in the club’s history, emphasizing that such remarks were unhelpful.

Amorim has frequently expressed dissatisfaction with his team during a tumultuous 14 months in charge, stating in January, “We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United.”

Eriksen, who departed United for Wolfsburg last summer after a four-year tenure at Old Trafford, noted that the team was already striving to ignore external criticism, particularly from former players turned pundits, and that Amorim’s comments only intensified their burden.

“That didn’t help at all,” Eriksen remarked to The Sunday Times. “I mean, that was not… I don’t think that helped the players at all. Some things should remain internal, as stating them publicly adds extra pressure and labels to players who are already trying their best.”

He continued, “Whether he is right or wrong is irrelevant; it felt like, ‘Oh, here we go again. Another headline.'”

Despite finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, Manchester United is currently positioned sixth after 18 games this year. Eriksen, a Tottenham icon with 310 career league appearances in England, signed with Wolfsburg on a free transfer last summer.
