Pellegrino Matarazzo s Dynamic Debut Training Session at ZubietaPellegrino Matarazzo s Dynamic Debut Training Session at Zubieta

Pellegrino Matarazzo was showcased in his inaugural training session at Zubieta, the only open session scheduled for several months unless regulations change. He presented himself as a highly energetic coach, effectively communicating his ideas and making corrections, while also allowing significant input from his assistants, particularly John Maisano.

Matarazzo was punctual and led the coaching staff and players onto the Zubieta pitch at 11:30 AM. The stands had been filled with over 1,000 spectators who arrived more than 30 minutes early. The passionate txuriurdin supporters showed no signs of discontent, enthusiastically applauding the coach and expressing their desire for more open training days like this one, especially during the festive season.

At the beginning of the session, the new coach positioned himself in the center of the field to oversee the first exercise, which involved three groups of players under the guidance of his assistants John Maisano, Omer Toprak, and Felipe Sánchez Mateos, who had previously been part of Sergio’s coaching staff. Additionally, set-piece specialist José Rodríguez was seen on the pitch, along with other staff members. There remains uncertainty about whether previous open sessions were a regular occurrence, as there were none during Sergio’s tenure.

Initially, Maisano appeared to take the lead, but Matarazzo gradually asserted his presence throughout the session, energetically engaging with the players on tactical ideas and corrective actions. His assistants, along with players like Oyarzabal, ensured that everyone understood his instructions.

The new manager frequently interrupted the training exercises, which covered larger areas of the field than the initial drills. However, it is anticipated that interruptions will decrease as the players adapt to his coaching philosophy. After an intense hour and fifteen minutes of training, both Matarazzo and the players took time to sign autographs and pose for selfies with fans, particularly the younger supporters.
