Sir Alex Ferguson Congratulates Pep Guardiola on Reaching 1,000 Matches in Management

Sir Alex Ferguson has congratulated Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as he prepares to reach a major milestone of 1,000 matches in management. Guardiola is set to hit the landmark when Manchester City face Liverpool on Sunday.

The achievement places Guardiola among the elite managers in world football, joining the League Managers Association Hall of Fame 1,000 Club.


Ferguson’s Message of Respect

Ferguson, who managed more than 2,000 matches during his legendary career at Manchester United, praised Guardiola in a statement shared on behalf of the LMA:

“Pep! I am absolutely thrilled to welcome you into the prestigious LMA Hall of Fame 1,000 Club. Your passion for the game has always been clear, and you should take immense pride in the impact you’ve had on football worldwide.”

He added:

“Reaching 1,000 matches and maintaining such success across leagues is a remarkable achievement. Your league titles, Champions League victories, and domestic trophies in three of Europe’s most competitive leagues speak for themselves.”


Guardiola’s Career and Achievements

Guardiola began his managerial journey with Barcelona B, before taking charge of the first team and leading them to one of the most dominant eras in football history.
He later managed Bayern Munich before joining Manchester City in 2016.

So far, Guardiola has recorded:

  • 999 matches managed

  • 715 victories

  • League titles in Spain, Germany, and England

  • Multiple Champions League and domestic cup triumphs

Reflecting on the milestone, Guardiola said:

“I am immensely proud to be reaching 1,000 games as a manager. This has always been a personal ambition of mine.”
