Critique of Dutch Teams in European Football CompetitionsCritique of Dutch Teams in European Football Competitions

The situation for Dutch teams in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League is concerning. There seems to be a persistent struggle to compete at this level. This sentiment was strongly articulated by analyst Kenneth Perez during a discussion on ESPN’s Voetbalpraat.

Perez expressed his disappointment regarding the current state of Dutch football teams in Europe, stating, “We simply need a strong top three.” He noted, “Currently, we have secured two spots in the Champions League and one spot for qualification… However, we lack three teams—indeed, even two—that can perform competitively in the Champions League. This indicates that our second tier is also not robust enough, leading to a continual decline in our overall performance.”
