Brennan Johnson Set for Crystal Palace Move After MedicalBrennan Johnson Set for Crystal Palace Move After Medical

According to the Telegraph, Brennan Johnson is scheduled to undergo a medical examination within the next 24 hours, paving the way for a £35 million transfer to Crystal Palace. The club is eager to integrate the winger into their lineup ahead of the upcoming match against Newcastle United.

Johnson has seen his role diminish at Tottenham Hotspur, particularly after the arrival of Mohammed Kudus in the summer. Under manager Thomas Frank, he has had limited opportunities, making just six starts this season. However, he finished the previous season as the club’s top scorer, netting 18 goals across all competitions.

In acquiring Johnson, Crystal Palace is poised to break their transfer record, previously set at £27 million for Christian Benteke from Liverpool in 2016. That transfer did not yield the desired results, leading to a more cautious approach in subsequent signings. Now, with the club competing in Europe and looking to support manager Oliver Glasner, they are prepared to invest significantly in the squad. Although Bournemouth and Aston Villa had shown interest in the winger, Palace acted swiftly to secure the signing.

Johnson’s memorable moment at Tottenham came when he scored the decisive goal that ended the club’s 17-year trophy drought in Bilbao last season, helping them clinch the Europa League title. He quickly became a crucial player under manager Ange Postecoglou, reflecting positively on his experiences from the tumultuous season.

In an interview with The Athletic in August, Johnson reflected on the previous season’s challenges. He stated, “Last season was like a rollercoaster. It taught me so much about football, both on and off the pitch. I learned and improved a lot. I wouldn’t change anything about it.”

He further elaborated on the joy of the celebrations, recalling, “It opened my eyes to how big the club is… The energy was so high. It was a special day.”

As Crystal Palace prepares to face Newcastle this weekend, they currently sit 11th in the Premier League table, one point ahead of Spurs. Johnson is eager to finalize his future and aims for a fresh start at Palace, focusing on his development under Glasner. He expressed his desire to enhance his dribbling skills and overall gameplay, stating, “I’m trying to improve my left foot and shooting off the dribble. It’s about trying to get an overall better game.”
