Ajax’s Coaching Search: Dick Schreuder Emerges as a Strong Candidate

It is anticipated that Fred Grim will finish the season as the interim coach of Ajax. However, the club is already looking to secure a strong candidate for a permanent position thereafter. Who will be the chosen one?

Johan Derksen has thrown his support behind Dick Schreuder, the head coach of NEC. In his podcast “Groeten uit Grolloo,” he stated, “For me, the Coach of the Year is Schreuder. He previously coached PEC Zwolle and achieved remarkable results. Now, he is training NEC with players I was unfamiliar with. They arrived seemingly out of nowhere, and I found myself wondering who they were and where they came from.”

Earlier, Johan Inan from Algemeen Dagblad revealed that Schreuder was already on Ajax’s radar following the departure of Francesco Farioli. “They compiled a shortlist at that time, and at the top—something many may not know—was Dick Schreuder. Ultimately, he opted for NEC. I believe Ajax wanted to take some time before making a decision, leading him to quickly join NEC. I don’t think everyone was in agreement at the time about him being the right choice, but he certainly has a favorable reputation with some members of the board.”

As for the current situation? “I am curious to see who will become the technical director, which has now been confirmed as Jordi Cruijff, and whether Schreuder will be considered for the role.”
