Maurits Hendriks believes that Ajax’s rich history often hampers the club’s progress. He argues that this focus on the past detracts from a forward-looking perspective, according to the former Chief Sports Officer. Additionally, he does not miss his time working at the prominent Dutch club.

In an interview with Trouw, Hendriks reflects on his turbulent period at Ajax. When asked about his weaknesses as an executive, he admits, “I have a hard time accepting defeat. I simply cannot stand it when things don’t go well.” He elaborates that his motivation during his tenure at Ajax was to solidify the club’s foundation with his experience and knowledge. “If I fail to achieve that, it is a profound disappointment for me. When efforts to instigate change are met with resistance, and it’s suggested that I am the cause of that stagnation, it weighs heavily on me.”
