Pulisic s Contract Negotiations with Milan Future Prospects and Performance InsightsPulisic s Contract Negotiations with Milan Future Prospects and Performance Insights

Christian Pulisic’s current contract with AC Milan is slated to run until 2027, with an option for an additional year beyond that period. The club is eager to negotiate at least a one-year extension, recognizing the significant role the United States international plays within the team.

A formal offer was reportedly on the table for much of 2025, but no agreement was reached as Pulisic opted to put negotiations on “stand-by” following the Rossoneri’s failure to qualify for European competitions. This development raised concerns about the team’s trajectory.

With the return of head coach Massimiliano Allegri, the club has experienced a resurgence, currently sitting second in the Serie A standings as of 2026, just one point behind rivals Inter Milan. Pulisic, affectionately dubbed ‘Captain America’, has emerged as an on-field leader.

This season, Pulisic has been the most productive player in Serie A, amassing 21 goal contributions, including 14 goals and seven assists. Despite facing some injury challenges, he boasts an impressive average of a goal every 70 minutes on the pitch.

Fellow forward Rafael Leao has also dealt with injuries, which has hindered Allegri’s ability to field his preferred attacking lineup consistently. However, the club views this situation as a positive sign, anticipating further development from their players.

If Pulisic can unlock his full potential, he may be persuaded to extend his stay at Milan. Speculation regarding a return to the Premier League has also emerged for the former Chelsea star, who previously celebrated Champions League success at Stamford Bridge.

Former USMNT player Brad Friedel commented to GOAL in late 2025 regarding Pulisic’s hesitance to sign a new contract, stating, “It indicates he is keeping his options open. In my experience, players tend to sign contracts when they are content. There are typically two reasons for not signing: dissatisfaction with the contract or the desire to explore other opportunities. If a player is happy, they usually sign.”

Friedel further noted, “The only other consideration could be a lack of confidence in the club’s direction. Given Pulisic’s performance, however, it seems unlikely that this is the case. He consistently plays well for Milan.”

According to Calciomercato, AC Milan remains “relatively calm” concerning discussions about Pulisic’s future. With Alexis Saelemakers recently renewing his contract, the focus is now shifting to Pulisic.

The Rossoneri are moving forward with plans to extend Pulisic’s contract by 12 months, potentially securing his services through to 2029, while retaining an automatic extension clause. Club officials are optimistic about progressing negotiations in the coming weeks.

Reports indicate that a further meeting is scheduled for the spring, with on-field performance being the primary concern for all parties involved at this time. Milan is reportedly not in a rush to finalize the agreement, as Pulisic has not indicated any intention of seeking a transfer.

Additionally, Milan intends to present “the best possible offer” to Pulisic’s representatives, which would include a substantial pay increase, aligning him with the club’s highest earners, as Leao currently earns €6 million (£5m/$7m) annually.
