Eintracht Frankfurt in Negotiations to Extend Mario Götze’s Contract

Eintracht Frankfurt has initiated discussions to extend Mario Götze’s contract, as reported by Bild.

The 33-year-old World Cup winner has made only three starts in his 11 Bundesliga appearances for Die Adler this season. However, he continues to be a significant presence in Dino Toppmöller’s squad, even though he has yet to contribute a goal.

In a statement made in September, Götze expressed his intention to continue with the Hessen club beyond the summer: “If I could draw up my own contract, it wouldn’t end in the summer.”

With a reported base salary of €3.5 million, supplemented by considerable bonuses, Götze stands among Frankfurt’s highest earners. A new contract is likely to involve a pay cut. Nevertheless, both Götze and the club’s management have been sending positive signals, suggesting that an extension beyond the summer is probable, although it might only be for an additional year.
