Ander Barrenetxea has returned to training this morning under the guidance of Pellegrino Matarazzo. The player appears to have fully recovered from a muscle injury that kept him out for three weeks, making him a candidate to feature in the upcoming match against Atlético Madrid at Anoeta this Sunday, likely starting from the bench. The Italian-American coach now faces the decision of whether to include him in the starting lineup for his debut in charge of the txuriurdin.

Barrenetxea had not trained with his teammates since the week leading up to the match against Girona on December 12, having dealt with a muscle issue for the prior month. This injury previously caused him to miss matches, including the Copa del Rey fixture in Elda and the LaLiga encounter against Levante in Valencia.

The young forward resumed training on December 26 after the Christmas break, while the team was scheduled to regroup on the 29th to continue his recovery. Although he was absent during Matarazzo’s first session at Zubieta last Monday and in the following days, it was thought he would not be ready for the Atlético match. However, it now seems he will at least be able to sit on the bench provided he completes today’s training session, which commenced without incident, along with the session scheduled for tomorrow.
