Sergio Ramos Considers New Ventures Amid Sevilla Takeover SpeculationSergio Ramos Considers New Ventures Amid Sevilla Takeover Speculation

Speculation surrounding a potential takeover at Sevilla FC has persisted for several months, taking an unexpected turn with the involvement of veteran defender Sergio Ramos.

At 39 years of age, Ramos, who developed his career at Sevilla before moving to Real Madrid in 2005, has established a remarkable legacy. During his 16-year tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu, he made 671 appearances and scored 101 goals, contributing to five domestic titles and four Champions League victories.

After leaving Madrid for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, alongside former Barcelona rival Lionel Messi, Ramos returned to his roots in 2023, playing just one season at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. In 2024, he ventured to Mexico, where he enjoyed an 18-month stint with Monterrey before parting ways with Liga MX upon the conclusion of his contract.

Now a free agent, Ramos is contemplating his next steps, exploring both on-field and off-field opportunities. A group of American investors, led by Antonio Lappi and Fede Quintero, appeared poised to take over Sevilla, with plans to potentially reinstate iconic former sporting director Monchi. However, after conducting due diligence, their offer was reduced from €3,400 per share to €2,700, causing negotiations to falter.

This situation has opened the door for alternative investors. Initially, Ramos was reported to be interested in becoming a minority investor, but recent updates from Cadena Cope indicate that the World Cup winner is now spearheading his own consortium. They have reportedly made the highest offer currently on the table, with Ramos as the face of this initiative.

The extent of his involvement with Sevilla remains uncertain, as he is not yet considering retirement from playing. Ramos is actively seeking another challenge, with plans to return to Europe.

Having earned 180 caps for Spain but not having played since 2021, Ramos is eager to reestablish his position in the national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup. To achieve this, he needs to secure a new club quickly, ensuring he gets regular game time to demonstrate his value to Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, especially given the depth of talent available.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has commented on Ramos’s future, stating: “Sergio Ramos leaves Monterrey as he confirms he’s played his last game in Mexico. Ramos wants to continue playing football, with no plans to retire, and is set to assess proposals. He is a free agent from now on.”

Speculation about Ramos potentially joining Serie A giants AC Milan has also emerged. If he does make the move, he would join USMNT star Christian Pulisic, who has become a key player for the Rossoneri, and could reunite with former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric, who continues to perform at a high level at 40 years old.

As Ramos weighs various playing opportunities, it remains to be seen whether he will maintain his connections with those bidding for control of Sevilla and whether a future directorial role might interest him.
