On Saturday, the flags at the Antonio Asensio Sports City flew at half-mast in memory of Miquel Contestí, who served as president of Mallorca from 1978 to 1992 and passed away on Friday at the age of 92.

The first team also observed a respectful minute of silence in honor of the historic figure in the club’s history, just before commencing their final training session of the week in preparation for their match against Girona at the Estadio de Son Moix on Sunday. A minute of silence will also be observed prior to the upcoming match.

In a statement, Mallorca expressed its sorrow over Contestí’s passing, noting that this loss has left a profound impact on the sports community in Balearic and all those who hold the club dear.

“His legacy is not measured solely by promotions or finals, but by ensuring the club’s continued existence. Thanks to his bravery and commitment, Real Club Deportivo Mallorca was able to survive, grow, and create some of the most significant chapters in its history. His memory will forever be associated with the presidency that saved the club when all seemed lost and restored hope,” the club stated.

Miquel Contestí’s funeral will take place on Friday, January 9, at 20:00 in the Church of s’Arenal in Llucmajor, the town where he was born in 1933 and is remembered as the greatest president in the club’s history.
