In a recent interview with RTL, VfB Stuttgart’s head coach Sebastian Hoeneß addressed the absence of midfielder Angelo Stiller from the German national team for the upcoming international break.

Julian Nagelsmann’s announcement of the squad for November has once again excluded Stiller, along with his teammate Maximilian Mittelstädt, marking the second consecutive break without their inclusion.

Hoeneß expressed his bewilderment at Stiller’s omission, particularly given the player’s significant contributions to Stuttgart’s current position in the Bundesliga. “I don’t know why. We were very surprised. I can only speak for Angelo; he is a central player for us and a major reason why we’re in fourth place. That combination really puzzled us,” he remarked.

When asked about the situation regarding Stiller and Mittelstädt, Hoeneß noted that Leon Goretzka had been retained in the squad in place of Stiller, with Aleksander Pavlovic, Felix Nmecha, and Nadiem Amiri joining Joshua Kimmich as midfield options. Leroy Sané was also recalled, despite his recent performances in Turkey not being particularly noteworthy.

Following Stuttgart’s 2-0 victory against Feyenoord, Stiller chose not to comment on his exclusion, while goalkeeper Alexander Nübel stated, “The surprise was great throughout the entire team.”
