Ruben Amorim Expresses Ambivalence About Future at Manchester UnitedRuben Amorim Expresses Ambivalence About Future at Manchester United

omidbasir- Ruben Amorim has voiced uncertainties regarding his future at Manchester United, explicitly stating his desire to serve as the “manager, not the coach.” He urged the club’s scouting department and sporting director to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

Appointed as Head Coach at Old Trafford under a contract extending until June 2027, Amorim transitioned to United from Sporting CP in November 2024. During a press conference on Friday, he expressed his frustrations about the lack of new signings during the January transfer window.

Following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds in the Premier League on Sunday, reporters sought clarification on his earlier remarks. Amorim hinted at a power struggle with Director of Football Jason Wilcox, indicating his desire for greater influence at the club, extending beyond his current coaching role.

“I have noticed that you receive selective information regarding everything,” Amorim remarked when addressing his comments from Friday. “I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not merely the coach, and that is unequivocal.

“I recognize that my name may not be as prominent as [Thomas] Tuchel, [Antonio] Conte, or [Jose] Mourinho, but I am the manager of Manchester United. This will remain the case for 18 months or until the board decides otherwise.

“I will fulfill my responsibilities, and every department, including the scouting team and the sporting director, must execute their roles effectively.

“I will do my part for 18 months, and then we will reassess the situation. That was my point. I wish to conclude this topic. I will not resign; I will perform my duties until a successor is appointed.

“Eventually, this arrangement will end in 18 months, and everyone will move forward. That is the agreement; my role is not solely that of a coach.”

Amorim has previously expressed concern over the influence of former United players now in media roles, such as Gary Neville and Paul Scholes. In a separate comment, he asserted that the club must adapt if it cannot withstand external criticism.

“If the club cannot manage the critiques from figures like Gary Neville and others, we need to rethink our approach,” he stated. “That is all I wish to convey.”
