Georginio Wijnaldum Reflects on Unfulfilled Return to Feyenoord

Georginio Wijnaldum was poised for a return to his childhood club, Feyenoord, during the summer of 2023. The midfielder even trained for a week in Rotterdam; however, the anticipated comeback did not materialize. Financial limitations ultimately rendered the move unfeasible, prompting the former international to sign with Al-Ettifaq instead.

Reflecting on the summer of 2023, Wijnaldum stated in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad, “There were hardly any other options at that time. Yes, there was some talk about Feyenoord, but financially, it was unattainable. I am referring to the transfer fee as well.” He expressed that even the brief experience of training in Rotterdam was meaningful to him, stating, “That week of training in Rotterdam gave me a wonderful feeling.”
