Sir Alex Ferguson has extended his congratulations to Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, as he prepares to mark his 1,000th match in management.

Guardiola will reach this significant milestone during City’s upcoming match against Liverpool on Sunday. Under his leadership, Manchester City has secured six Premier League titles and a Champions League victory.

Speaking on behalf of the League Managers Association, Ferguson, who managed over 2,000 games during his illustrious career with Manchester United, stated: “Pep! I am absolutely delighted to welcome you to join the prestigious LMA Hall of Fame 1,000 Club.

“Your deep love and passion for the game has always been evident, and you should take immense pride in the enduring impact you continue to make across the global football landscape.

“Reaching 1,000 matches and achieving such longevity in football is a milestone that can never be underestimated. To consistently deliver league titles, Champions League successes, and domestic cups in three of Europe’s most competitive leagues is truly outstanding.”

Guardiola began his managerial journey with Barcelona B before advancing to the senior team at Barcelona, followed by a successful tenure at Bayern Munich, and subsequently joining Manchester City in 2016. To date, he has won 715 of his 999 matches.

In his own words, Guardiola expressed, “I am so proud to be reaching 1,000 games as a manager, a goal that has always held special significance for me.”

Richard Bevan, chief executive of the LMA, remarked: “Pep has dedicated his entire career to pursuing excellence, driven by an unparalleled desire to win and a globally respected style of play.

“His accomplishments and success across Spain, Germany, and England are unprecedented, and his influence continues to shape the future of the game for coming generations.”
