Manchester United has officially parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim, as announced in a club statement on Monday. The decision comes as the team currently sits sixth in the Premier League standings. The leadership deemed it necessary to make a change in order to maximize the team’s chances of achieving a higher finish in the league.

The club expressed gratitude to Amorim for his contributions and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.

Amorim’s departure follows a deterioration of his relationship with club officials, particularly with Director of Football Jason Wilcox. In a press conference preceding the match against Leeds United, the Portuguese manager voiced his frustration over a lack of activity in the January transfer window. This sentiment continued after a 1-1 draw at Elland Road, during which he expressed a desire to be recognized as the “manager, not the coach,” while also urging Wilcox to fulfill his responsibilities.

Having taken charge in November 2024, Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford has been marked by challenges, with a record of 24 wins in 63 matches, including only 15 victories in the Premier League. As it stands, United remains in sixth place with eight wins out of 20 games this season.

In the interim, Under-18s head coach Darren Fletcher will assume managerial responsibilities ahead of the upcoming match against Burnley on Wednesday.
