Support for Martindale Amidst Struggles at LivingstonSupport for Martindale Amidst Struggles at Livingston

David Martindale has served as the manager of Livingston for over five years, and the club’s chairman, Calvin Ford, has reiterated his “full support” for Martindale despite the team’s current difficulties this season.

Livingston currently finds itself at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership, having accumulated only nine points from 20 matches. Their sole victory in the league came nearly five months ago, with a 3-1 win against Falkirk at home.

The team has suffered four consecutive defeats, although they were notably competitive in their last match at Tynecastle, where they narrowly lost to league leaders Hearts.

Martindale, 51, has been at the helm since December 2020, having previously held various roles within the club. Ford, who became majority shareholder and chairman in May 2025, emphasized the relationship he built with Martindale during his initial visit to the club.

“When I had the opportunity to invest in Livingston, David was the first person I met,” Ford stated. “From our very first conversation, it was evident that his passion and commitment to Livingston FC were unparalleled in my experiences in sports.

“Despite the extraordinary challenges we have faced this season, Davie’s attitude, along with that of his staff, has remained positive and optimistic. He is a leader, and I fully support him in this role.”

While Ford acknowledged that the results have not met expectations this season, he believes that maintaining continuity is crucial for the club to navigate its current situation.

“There is no excuse for our poor performance, and I understand the anger, frustration, and disappointment it has caused our dedicated fans, staff, and volunteers. You deserve better, and I take responsibility for that,” he added.

“I did not come to this club to engage in a cycle of hiring and firing managers. I have witnessed the chaos and negativity that such decisions can bring. I am committed to building something sustainable, which can only be achieved through continuity, rather than impulsive decisions.”

Livingston will face St Mirren on Tuesday, with a crucial win potentially bringing them within one point of Kilmarnock in 11th place.
