omidbasir- Brazilian forward Endrick has sought guidance from his former Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, prior to his loan move to Ligue 1 club Lyon for the remainder of the season.

The 19-year-old talent made a significant impact under Ancelotti’s mentorship but has seen limited playing time this season under Xabi Alonso, who succeeded Ancelotti.

“Yes, I spoke to Carlo about my decision. He provided valuable insights on what I could do to improve and develop my skills, which really resonated with me,” Endrick stated during his unveiling at Lyon.

“His advice was to leave [Real Madrid] in order to play, develop my football, and find happiness on the field. While the decision was ultimately mine, Carlo’s influence was undeniable, as he is an exceptional coach.”

Endrick featured in only three matches for Madrid this season. However, rather than harboring resentment, he views the time spent on the sidelines as a period of personal growth.

“Honestly, I tell my loved ones that these have been some of the best months of my career. I have had the chance to spend time with my wife, build our home, and shape our lives together,” he remarked through a translator.

Joining a Lyon side that is on the rise under Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca, Endrick is looking forward to contributing as the team currently sits in fifth place in Ligue 1, just two points shy of third position. The familiarity of having a Portuguese coaching staff influenced his decision to join the club.

“Having a Portuguese technical staff is advantageous for me, as I was previously coached by Abel Ferreira, another Portuguese coach, at Palmeiras. I understand their approach, and that was an important factor for my decision.”

During his last season under Ancelotti—who is now the head coach of Brazil—Endrick scored seven goals in 37 appearances, showcasing his speed and dribbling prowess.

He may have the opportunity to reunite with Ancelotti later this year at the World Cup, having scored three goals for Brazil last year against teams such as England and Spain.

Endrick commenced his professional journey at Palmeiras, where he netted 21 goals in 82 matches, earning a coveted transfer to Real Madrid.

Lyon has a rich history of successful Brazilian players, including recent stars like Lucas Paquetá and Bruno Guimarães, who are now thriving in the Premier League with West Ham and Newcastle, respectively.

The club has also featured notable talents such as forwards Fred, Nilmar, and Giovane Élber, midfielder Edmilson, and defenders Cris and Rafael, all of whom left a significant mark in the league.

However, the most renowned among them was midfield maestro Juninho, who established himself as arguably the finest free-kick specialist in Europe, scoring 100 goals for Lyon from 2001 to 2008.
