omidbasir- The injury sustained by Riqui Puig dates back to December 2024, during the Western Conference Final against the Seattle Sounders. In that match, he provided the pivotal assist in a 1–0 victory that advanced the Galaxy toward their sixth MLS Cup title. Since then, the 26-year-old has been unable to participate in competitive play.

The club has confirmed that the surgery was conducted by the esteemed orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Ramon Cugat. The Galaxy announced that Puig is anticipated to make a complete recovery in time for the commencement of the 2027 MLS season.

“Riqui Puig successfully underwent left knee ACL reconstruction surgery, a little over a year after a similar procedure at the end of 2024,” stated the Galaxy in an official release. “He is expected to fully recover and rejoin the team ahead of the start of the 2027 MLS season.”

Puig also took to his personal social media channels to address his followers, sharing an emotional update following the surgery in Barcelona. “After an entire year dedicated to rehabilitation, I received news during a medical checkup that no one wishes to hear: the graft was not correct, necessitating another surgery,” he wrote. “This has been one of the toughest challenges I have faced in my life, both personally and professionally. However, I can now say that the surgery was successful, which gives me strength and peace of mind as I look ahead.”

Since his arrival from FC Barcelona in 2022, Puig has emerged as one of the Galaxy’s most pivotal players. He played an integral role in the club’s 2024 MLS Cup victory, accumulating 27 goals and 23 assists in 74 matches across all competitions.

In the 2024 season alone, Puig amassed 37 goal contributions (17 goals and 20 assists) over 36 matches, including eight direct contributions during four appearances in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. He concluded the 2024 MLS regular season with an impressive record of 16 goals and 14 assists in 29 matches.

In May 2024, Puig signed a contract extension with LA Galaxy that is set to run through December 2027, indicating that his return from injury may play a crucial role in shaping the final chapter of his tenure with the club.
