omidbasir- Relebohile Mofokeng began to make his presence felt in South African football towards the end of the 2022/23 season after receiving his debut from coach Jose Riveiro.

At just 21 years old, Mofokeng has played a pivotal role in securing four MTN8 titles, two Nedbank Cups, and the recent Carling Knockout trophy for Orlando Pirates.

His impressive talent has attracted interest from several top-tier teams, including Wolverhampton Wanderers from the English Premier League, Rangers from Scotland, clubs across Belgium, and prominent African team Al Ahly.

In contrast, Mohau Nkota and Mbekezeli Mbokazi have recently departed from Orlando Pirates shortly after making their senior debuts.

MC Alger coach Rhulani Mokwena disclosed that the Algerian club is keen on acquiring Mofokeng, though the player has expressed a preference for opportunities in Europe.

Mokwena emphasized Mofokeng’s talents, stating, “I know the [MC Alger] fans want Mofokeng, and believe me, I want Mofokeng as well.” He acknowledged his conversations with the player regarding South African football but noted that Mofokeng’s ambitions extend beyond Africa. “The player has had many offers but is focused on pursuing a career in Europe,” Mokwena added.

In a recent interview, Mofokeng articulated his aspirations to advance from Pirates to a club abroad, believing that such a move would represent a significant step in his career. “If an opportunity arises, I will seize it,” he mentioned, recognizing the importance of the current tournament in creating such prospects.

Mofokeng also commented on the upcoming challenge faced by Bafana Bafana against the formidable Indomitable Lions, highlighting the importance of mental strength in overcoming obstacles. “Mentality matters the most; if I believe in my ability to surpass any opponent, I will succeed,” he stated.

Coach Hugo Bros noted that Mofokeng’s struggles at the start of the season can be attributed to external pressures regarding his potential transfer. He remarked, “It’s not my role to advise players on their club decisions, but it’s evident that outside influences have affected Mofokeng’s performance.”

As the winger prepares for domestic engagements following Bafana Bafana’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, he will look to refocus and harness his talents for future endeavors.
