Liam Rosenior Appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Following Departure from StrasbourgLiam Rosenior Appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Following Departure from Strasbourg

omidbasir- After observing a decline in performance under Enzo Maresca, who made critical remarks towards the club’s board, Chelsea Football Club decided to make another managerial change on New Year’s Day.

It was quickly suggested that Liam Rosenior would be approached to fill the vacant position. With BlueCo managing both Chelsea and Strasbourg, negotiations were minimal, allowing for a seamless transition of the coach from one club to another. It has now been officially confirmed that Rosenior has returned to English football on a contract extending until 2032.

When departing from Strasbourg, Rosenior remarked, “The reality is Strasbourg is not on the level of Chelsea. While it has potential for growth, it is difficult to leave. I hope the fans will be proud that their coach has been given a chance to manage the Club World Cup champions.”

Strasbourg supporters, however, are understandably upset about Chelsea’s ability to easily secure their coach with little resistance. A statement from the supporters’ federation expressed their discontent: “The transfer of Liam Rosenior marks another humiliating step in Racing’s subservience to Chelsea. For two-and-a-half years, we have been raising alarms about this issue. The problem extends beyond immediate sporting impacts; it threatens the future of French club football. Every decision made by Marc Keller seems to undermine the significant progress made prior to 2023.”

Strasbourg President Marc Keller addressed concerns regarding the club’s relationship with Chelsea in November 2025, stating, “I understand that a minority are still questioning the multi-club model. We continue to engage in dialogue, and the best response will come from our performance on the pitch. I do not view us as a feeder club; instead, I see it as a ‘younger brother’ relationship where we support one another.”

Despite Keller’s reassurances, many fans disagree, particularly as Rosenior led Strasbourg to their first European qualification in 19 years during his debut season.

In expressing his excitement for the new role, Rosenior stated, “I am extremely humbled and honored to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club. This club has a unique spirit and a rich history of success. I am committed to preserving that identity and constructing a team that embodies these values in every match as we strive for more trophies. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and will dedicate myself fully to achieving the success this club deserves.”

He emphasized the importance of teamwork, unity, and mutual support, stating, “These values will be central to everything we do and will form the foundation of our achievements.”

Rosenior expressed eagerness to collaborate with the talented roster at Chelsea and to foster a collaborative environment both on and off the pitch. “There is a genuine desire to win, and I will exert every effort daily to ensure this team competes at the highest level, making everyone associated with Chelsea proud.”

Chelsea, currently positioned fifth in the Premier League, will face off against local rivals Fulham on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, Strasbourg’s next match in Ligue 1 is scheduled for January 18, following a cup tie against Avranches.
