omidbasir- Manchester City’s defensive injury crisis has escalated following Pep Guardiola’s announcement that Rúben Dias will be sidelined for up to six weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Guardiola is already without Josko Gvardiol, who is scheduled to undergo surgery this week for a broken shin bone. Both players were forced off during the second half of City’s recent 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

Ahead of Brighton’s visit to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, Guardiola confirmed that Dias will be out for an extended period. Additionally, John Stones remains unavailable, having made just one league start since August.

“With the spirit that we have, we can always cope,” Guardiola remarked. “Injuries happen sometimes, and we wish Josko, Ruben, and John a speedy recovery as we navigate through this challenging period. I remain positive and confident that we will manage.”

The shortage of defenders has led to speculation that the club may pursue Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guéhi in the upcoming January transfer window. Guéhi, who nearly joined Liverpool during the summer, will be out of contract at the end of the season.

Moreover, City is reportedly on the brink of signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, having indicated their intent to activate the £65 million ($88 million) release clause in his contract.

“We may look to make some acquisitions in January, but it will be a different approach this time,” Guardiola stated. “We are not planning to sign four or five players as we did last season.”
