Valencia Faces Health Challenges Ahead of Elche MatchValencia Faces Health Challenges Ahead of Elche Match

The ongoing flu outbreak is significantly affecting Valencia’s daily operations. The virus, which previously impacted the squad during recent league matches against Atlético and Celta, has resurfaced, leading to new issues within the white-and-black dressing room during a pivotal week. Fortunately, there is still time for recovery before their match against Elche on Saturday, January 10, at 21:00.

In the training session on Tuesday, January 6, Filip Ugrinic and Jesús Vázquez did not participate with the group due to flu symptoms. The Swiss midfielder is now nearly asymptomatic but has not passed the health test required for team participation, prompting precautionary measures to avoid contact with teammates. In contrast, Jesús Vázquez is experiencing clear symptoms, including fever and discomfort, and has been advised to rest at home.

Ugrinic’s situation is particularly noteworthy, as he missed the match against Celta due to the flu. Although his condition has improved, he remains isolated from the group as a precautionary measure. The Swiss midfielder seemed to have secured a place in the starting lineup following the match at Metropolitano, joining a list of players who have dealt with flu symptoms in recent weeks. Throughout the weeks leading up to and following the Christmas break, head coach Carlos Corberán has had to manage multiple player absences and those arriving with reduced physical conditions, including José Luis Gayá and Luis Rioja. Previous days saw impacts on Pepelu, Hugo Duro, and Javi Guerra, although Guerra has since returned to training. This situation has raised concerns within the coaching staff regarding the ongoing risk of contagion.

While recovery time is available, it is important to note that for the upcoming league match against Elche, the coach will be without Hugo Duro due to suspension, as well as Agirrezabala and Diakhaby, both of whom are sidelined with muscle injuries expected to keep them out for six to eight weeks. On a more positive note, Comert and Dimitrievski are ready to participate.
