Lionel Messi Embracing Normalcy Amidst StardomLionel Messi Embracing Normalcy Amidst Stardom

Lionel Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time, has always maintained a relatively shy and reserved demeanor despite being in the public eye. At 38 years old, the former Paris Saint-Germain star seeks to embrace a sense of normalcy in his life once his professional obligations on the football pitch conclude.

In July 2025, Messi stated, “When I enter my house with my family, I strive to be a normal dad and a regular husband, taking on the responsibilities that come with those roles. I try to live a life beyond the fame and recognition that I experience outside. Within my home, I am just like anyone else; I discipline my children, set boundaries, play with them, and share moments with my wife. I lead a very ordinary life.”

In a candid interview with Argentine channel Luzu, Messi expressed his appreciation for solitude, particularly following hectic periods spent with his three children. He humorously acknowledged his own quirks, saying, “I’m weirder than sh*t. I genuinely enjoy being alone. The chaos created by the kids can be overwhelming, and I often crave moments of quiet. I prefer a structured day, and when unexpected events disrupt that structure, it can be challenging for me.”

When asked about what makes him feel peculiar, Messi playfully deferred to his partner, Antonella, commenting, “She could provide more insights than I can, as my mood can fluctuate based on various minor things.”

Messi’s ascent to global stardom began at Barcelona, where he secured numerous Champions League titles, La Liga championships, and Ballon d’Or awards. However, the pressures and attention that accompany such fame posed challenges as he navigated the world of superstardom.

Reflecting on his mental health, he remarked, “While I don’t undergo therapy currently, I did so during my time in Barcelona. I tend to internalize many of my problems. I’ve changed significantly over the years. When it comes to sports, I often consult my father for guidance. In daily life, I appreciate solitude; the constant noise from the kids can become overwhelming.”

As the year 2026 unfolds, Messi aims for another successful season with Inter Miami, following their inaugural MLS Cup victory, while also working to help Argentina defend their World Cup title in North America. His contract with Miami extends until 2028, with the team set to commence their 2026 campaign against LAFC on February 22.
