Borussia Dortmund Seeks Early Contract Extension for Felix NmechaBorussia Dortmund Seeks Early Contract Extension for Felix Nmecha

Felix Nmecha of Borussia Dortmund attracted significant attention last summer, with clubs such as Inter, Juventus, and Manchester United vying for his signature. Currently, Nmecha’s contract runs until 2028.

A report by WAZ indicates that Borussia Dortmund is keen to secure an early contract extension for Nmecha to fend off potential suitors this summer.

Currently, only informal discussions have been initiated regarding contract extensions for Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi, both of whom are priorities for the club. Dortmund aims to prevent entering the 2026/27 season with just 12 months remaining on their contracts.

Over the past eight months, Nmecha has risen to prominence as one of Borussia Dortmund’s key players. After a challenging start to the year, which saw the team suffer three consecutive defeats under Nuri Şahin and culminated in a knee injury at the end of January, his performance significantly improved following the appointment of Niko Kovač. Kovač previously coached Nmecha during his tenure at Wolfsburg, and his influence has been pivotal in revitalizing the midfielder’s form.

Since overcoming early-season challenges in 2025, Nmecha has evolved into a standout player in the Bundesliga under Kovač’s leadership at Dortmund. He is beginning to justify the €30 million investment made by Dortmund to acquire him from Wolfsburg in July 2023. If he can maintain his fitness, Nmecha is poised to be a player to watch in 2026.
