Mouctar Diakhaby Undergoes Surgery for Hamstring InjuryMouctar Diakhaby Undergoes Surgery for Hamstring Injury

Mouctar Diakhaby underwent surgery on Friday to address a significant hamstring tear sustained during the match against Celta. This decision was made after diagnostic tests revealed a hemorrhage, indicating the potential severity of the muscular injury, which involved the proximal tendon of the hamstring.

The Guinea international had previously suffered an injury in the same area back in October, which sidelined him for two months. Given his medical history and his recovery from a right knee dislocation in March 2024, both the medical team and Diakhaby agreed that surgical intervention was necessary.

The procedure took place at the IMSKE Hospital in Valencia on Friday morning. Recovery from this surgery could extend beyond four months, similar to the recovery timeline of Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo after undergoing the same procedure. Consequently, Valencia is contemplating requesting Diakhaby’s federation registration to open a roster spot for a new central defender. This move would not only facilitate the recruitment of a replacement but also free up 80% of Diakhaby’s salary until June 30, thereby allowing the club to navigate Financial Fair Play regulations more effectively.

As a result, Valencia is now in the market for not just one, but two central defenders, contrary to their initial plan, which accounted for Diakhaby’s recovery. Additionally, it’s worth noting that César Tárrega has been playing with discomfort since before the winter break, and José Copete is one yellow card away from suspension, which could create complications for the upcoming match against Getafe if he receives a booking against Elche.
