Jamie Vardy: An Evergreen Striker Defying Age

As a remarkable performer showing no signs of slowing down, Jamie Vardy has achieved 150 goals at the highest competitive level, with an impressive 116 of those scored after turning 30. Of his total goals, 145 were netted while playing for Leicester City, where he won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2019-20 season with a tally of 23 goals.

Since joining Cremonese as a free agent in the summer of 2025, he has scored five goals, with his latest contribution occurring in a 2-2 draw against Cagliari, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Vardy celebrated his 30th birthday on January 11, 2017, and has maintained exceptional individual performance levels since that date. He concluded his tenure with Leicester having scored 200 goals across 500 appearances, which included winning the English top-flight title in 2016.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, can boast a better scoring record after the age of 30, having netted 290 goals in Europe’s top five leagues since reaching that milestone. Ronaldo’s record includes 162 goals during his unprecedented spell at Real Madrid, 101 at Juventus, and 27 during a less successful period at Manchester United.

To date, Ronaldo has amassed 958 career goals and continues to play at 40 years old for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, with a contract extending until 2027.

Vardy appears to be on a similar trajectory, with no immediate plans for retirement. His contract with Cremonese includes an option for a 12-month extension, and he is determined to prove his doubters wrong. In response to a question regarding his capabilities as he approaches 40, Vardy stated, “Age is just a number. As long as my legs are doing exactly what they used to and still feel fresh, I will carry on.”

He emphasized his track record of overcoming doubt throughout his career, expressing confidence in the team’s potential under their passionate manager. “I’m looking forward to the games starting to come thick and fast so I can show people exactly what I’m about. It’s about proving the doubters wrong and ensuring that we battle for a full 90–95 minutes.”

Currently, Cremonese sits 13th in the Serie A standings, nine points clear of the relegation zone with half the season remaining.

In addition to his football endeavors, Vardy is set to star in a documentary series alongside his wife, Rebekah, which promises to offer insights into their private lives and their new adventure in Italy, expected to deliver plenty of entertainment.
