Ajax Pursues New Midfielder Options Ahead of January Transfer Window

Ajax is set to secure a new midfielder in January, with James McConnell already making room for potential additions. The club is considering Manuel Ugarte from Manchester United and Daley Blind from Girona CF as viable options.

According to club analyst Mike Verweij, “Ugarte has definitely been mentioned in discussions at Ajax. He could still be an option, but thus far, Ajax has received feedback from United indicating he is not available for loan. Recently, he was included in the starting lineup, which complicates matters. Nevertheless, he could be a very interesting player to consider for a half-year loan.”

On the other hand, Blind is viewed as a more attainable target. Valentijn Driessen believes that Ajax should also invest in younger talents such as Sean Steur. He posits, “Having a player like Blind in the squad could enhance the performance of younger players. If his presence improves their game by even twenty percent, it would greatly benefit Ajax. That’s the underlying strategy.”
