United s Resilience Shines in Draw Against BurnleyUnited s Resilience Shines in Draw Against Burnley

Manchester United fell behind to an own goal by Ayden Heaven during their match against Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night, entering halftime with a score of 1-0 in favor of the relegation-threatened Clarets.

However, the Manchester club quickly turned the tide in the second half, with Benjamin Sesko scoring two goals within a span of ten minutes to give United a 2-1 lead. This advantage was short-lived, as Jaidon Anthony netted an equalizer just six minutes later, resulting in an eventual 2-2 draw. The outcome keeps United unbeaten in four matches, although they remain winless in three and have secured only three victories in their last twelve games.

Interim manager Fletcher expressed his belief that Burnley right-back Kyle Walker should have been sent off for a first-half stamp on Dorgu. Despite treading on Dorgu’s leg while he was on the ground partially covering the ball, referee Stuart Attwell opted for no action, and VAR chose not to intervene. Fletcher drew comparisons between Walker’s incident and Lisandro Martinez’s disallowed goal, where a foul was assessed against Martinez.

When asked if Walker was fortunate that Dorgu didn’t react more dramatically to the stamp, Fletcher remarked, “Just like Kyle Walker did when Licha didn’t touch him? Yes. That’s the territory we are entering. However, Patrick is such an honest player; he would never exaggerate the situation.

“Although it didn’t look great from Walker’s perspective, I like him personally, and I hope his intent was to play the ball. Patrick believed that Kyle was trying to get the ball and inadvertently made contact with him.”

Fletcher continued, “In my view, VAR should have reviewed that incident. They examined the disallowed goal, which was absurd; hence they should have also looked at this situation. If they don’t, it encourages players to dramatize situations, which we aim to avoid in the sport. I discourage my players from acting theatrically, but these two incidents were significant factors in the outcome of the game.”

Sesko’s impressive performance included his third and fourth league goals of the season, earning commendation from Fletcher. “I was thrilled for him. We reviewed video footage of his movement and goals, emphasizing the importance of continued belief and providing him with more service,” Fletcher said regarding the former RB Leipzig striker.

“He delivered on the night with two outstanding goals. It was a positive evening for Ben. The team is disappointed with the draw, but personally, I hope he can build on this success.”

Fletcher will continue to serve as the interim manager for United in their upcoming FA Cup fourth round match against Brighton, despite rumors surrounding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s potential return to Old Trafford. Looking ahead, United’s next league fixture is the crucial Manchester Derby, where they aim to disrupt their rivals’ title ambitions.
