Ajax has officially appointed Jordi Cruijff as the successor to Alex Kroes in the role of technical director. However, noteworthy revelations indicate that Ajax also reached out to PSV’s director Earnest Stewart regarding this position. According to reports from Het Parool, discussions were also held with AZ’s director Max Huiberts.

While the decision to select Cruijff has been confirmed, it is reported that several candidates were considered. The Parool elaborates that Ajax did not limit its inquiries to Cruijff alone, but also engaged with Stewart from PSV and Huiberts from AZ. Furthermore, SoccerNews corroborates that Ajax indeed had conversations with Earnest Stewart about the technical director role back in November, but Stewart ultimately declined the offer to join Ajax.

In terms of competitive performance, Het Parool notes that Cruijff’s role could be significantly enhanced if Ajax finishes in second place in the Eredivisie. Such a position would guarantee direct qualification for the Champions League, resulting in an estimated revenue influx of approximately 50 million euros. This financial boost would facilitate Cruijff’s efforts in securing both a coach and players for the club.
