The incident occurred in the 23rd minute of Saturday’s match against Excelsior, with PSV already leading 1-0. Ricardo Pepi made a decisive run to the back post to connect with a pass from Guus Til. Although the American managed to score, his sliding attempt resulted in his arm bending at an awkward angle. After falling to the ground, Pepi was promptly substituted, marking an early end to his participation in the match.

Following the game, PSV provided an update regarding the striker’s health, confirming that he would be out of action for several months. “Ricardo Pepi has suffered a forearm fracture,” the club stated. “The 23-year-old forward will undergo surgery tomorrow and is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months.”

This injury presents a significant setback for Pepi, especially considering he faced a similar situation last January. During a productive scoring streak leading into the new year, Pepi sustained a season-ending knee injury that did not completely heal until the fall. Upon his return to health, he showcased an impressive performance, and with his recent goal, he raised his season tally to 11, including eight in the Eredivisie over just 716 minutes.

Last season, Pepi’s impressive form attracted attention from Premier League clubs, and interest was rekindled this season, with reports suggesting that Fulham had made a substantial offer for him. However, PSV’s sporting director, Earnie Stewart, insisted that Pepi was not on the market. For now, the focus will solely be on Pepi’s recovery, which is anticipated to occur well in advance of the USMNT’s World Cup roster selection.

PSV ultimately triumphed in Saturday’s match with a score of 5-1, solidifying their position at the top of the Eredivisie. With this victory, they now lead by 14 points over the second-placed team, and will next face Den Bosch in the cup and Fortuna Sittard in the league.

Meanwhile, the USMNT, under Mauricio Pochettino’s management, will regroup in March for friendly matches against Portugal and Belgium.
