Thierry Rendall has sustained a hamstring injury in his left leg, as reported by Valencia in a medical update this Sunday. The right-back, who started in the match against Elche, requested a substitution in the 17th minute after injuring himself while attempting to reach a long ball. In stretching to outpace an opponent, he incurred damage to his hamstring.

This injury mirrors one sustained by Julen Agirrezabala during the match against Celta Vigo. While the recovery time can vary for each injury, it could extend to six to eight weeks, similar to that of the Basque goalkeeper. Rendall’s situation is further complicated by his lengthy absence last season due to surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament tear.

This represents yet another setback in Valencia’s significant defensive struggles. Notably, in the same match against Celta, Mouctar Diakhaby also suffered a hamstring injury of such severity that it required surgical intervention, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. In light of these injuries, Corberán has emphasized on multiple occasions the urgent need for Valencia to secure a new defender to address the absence of the Guinean player.

Rendall was replaced by Dimitri Foulquier, who faced boos from the crowd during the first half each time he touched the ball. The Guadeloupean defender had two opportunities to score from set pieces.
