Ajax Initiates Loan Talks for Maximilian Ibrahimovic from MilanAjax Initiates Loan Talks for Maximilian Ibrahimovic from Milan

Reports from Dutch publication De Telegraaf indicate that Ajax, a four-time Champions League champion, is in discussions with AC Milan about the possibility of signing Maximilian Ibrahimovic on loan, with an option to buy.

Maximilian, currently playing for Milan’s U23 team, has reportedly engaged in talks with various Eredivisie clubs; however, he has expressed a strong preference for joining Ajax and donning their iconic white and red jersey.

According to the report, Ajax plans to integrate Maximilian into their youth academy matches while also allowing him to train with the first-team squad led by Fred Grim. The young winger is under contract with Milan until 2027 and made his first call-up to Massimiliano Allegri’s senior squad during December’s Italian Super Cup semi-final against Napoli, although he remained an unused substitute.

If Milan and Ajax reach an agreement during the winter transfer window, it would see Maximilian following in the footsteps of his father, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who had a notable tenure with Ajax from 2001 to 2004. Zlatan, now a senior adviser to Milan after retiring in 2023, netted 48 goals in 110 appearances for Ajax and won four major titles, including two Eredivisie championships.

Zlatan’s career continued with notable stints at Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and LA Galaxy. He scored an impressive 156 goals in 180 appearances for PSG, securing 12 major honors, and later returned to Milan, where he scored an additional 37 goals before retiring.

While the outcome of the negotiations for Maximilian remains uncertain, both Milan and Ajax are aiming to sustain their momentum in their respective competitions this January. Milan, with only one loss in Serie A this season, is set to face Como next Thursday, while Ajax will compete against AZ Alkmaar in the last 16 of the Dutch Cup a day earlier.
