Bayern Munich, seeking to extend their lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund to 11 points, exhibited a relentless attacking prowess in their first match since the Bundesliga hiatus began on December 21.

Despite a minor setback in the 13th minute when Wolfsburg striker Dzenan Pejcinovic scored his fourth goal in two league appearances, Bayern showcased their unbeaten domestic record with an impressive display.

The team delivered an entertaining performance at the Allianz Arena, bolstered by two own goals from Kilian Fischer and Moritz Jenz. Key contributions came from Diaz, Raphael Guerreiro, Harry Kane, and Leon Goretzka, while Olise stood out as the man of the match with a remarkable brace.

On a night where every opportunity turned into a goal, Olise and Diaz emerged as the standout players for manager Vincent Kompany’s side. In addition to his two goals in the second half, Olise assisted Diaz’s superb header in the first half, demonstrating excellent synergy as he connected with Konrad Laimer’s pass to deliver a precise cross from the right.

In the second half, Diaz reciprocated by skillfully maneuvering onto his right foot and providing a clever pass to Olise, who capped off the evening with Bayern’s seventh goal. This season, Olise has netted 12 goals and assisted nine times across all competitions, while Diaz has made a significant impact in his debut campaign with 14 goals and eight assists since joining from Liverpool last summer.

Following their stellar performance against Wolfsburg, both players received high praise from Bayern’s sports director, Max Eberl, who drew parallels between their performances and the legendary wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Eberl remarked, “When I see Michael’s position and moves, he resembles Arjen Robben. He’s kind of the new Robben we’ve got. Delicate, elegant. And with Lucho on the other side, we’ve got that Franck Ribery type, the creative chaos-maker. Our wing partnership is extraordinary.”

Robben and Ribery, known colloquially as ‘Robbery’, were instrumental in Bayern’s treble-winning season in 2012-13 and tormented defenders during their decade-long partnership.

Looking ahead, Olise and Diaz aim to maintain their form as Bayern prepares for a challenging away match against Köln on Wednesday, followed by a clash with third-placed RB Leipzig just three days later. While preferring to avoid direct comparisons to his predecessors, Bayern manager Kompany praised Olise and Diaz, stating, “The guys upfront have high individual quality…they’re always a threat. It’s not just them. We have many players who can score and create.”
