Endrick s Promising Start at Lyon A New Chapter in His CareerEndrick s Promising Start at Lyon A New Chapter in His Career

Endrick last found the back of the net at club level in April 2025, scoring during a thrilling 4-4 draw with Real Sociedad while playing for Real Madrid. However, he faced challenges securing a starting position under former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

With the arrival of Xabi Alonso at the helm of the Bernabeu, there was potential for a fresh start. Unfortunately, injuries hindered the young player’s progress, compounded by a red card received late in a La Liga match against Celta Vigo in December.

As fierce competition emerged from the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo, discussions about a transfer for Endrick began months before Lyon ultimately secured his services.

Lyon gave Endrick his first appearance in a Coupe de France clash against Lille, where he nearly scored early on, hitting the post within five minutes. He did find the net three minutes before halftime, converting a perfect pass from Corentin Tolisso with a left-footed volley.

Displaying confidence throughout the match, Endrick was substituted in the 72nd minute, showing promise for a successful period in France. He expressed contentment with how swiftly he has adapted to life with the Ligue 1 club.

In an interview with beIN Sports, Endrick stated, “I’m very happy; it was my first match. The most important thing was this qualification. We knew they were a tough opponent, and I’m grateful for the chance to score. I’m delighted to be back on the pitch and regain my joy. It’s much better than I imagined. I can joke with the entire team, and my ability to speak Spanish and English has helped me feel at home. I appreciate the staff and everyone involved.”

When asked about his decision to join Lyon amidst interest from various clubs across Europe, Endrick explained: “The style of play appeals to me. It reminds me of my time at Palmeiras when I played as a false nine. I enjoy contributing to the team defensively and offensively, and I appreciate the freedom I have here. I want to play in any position and help the team succeed. While I don’t set specific objectives, my focus is on winning. The goals will come, but the team’s success is my priority. I aim to contribute in every way possible.”

Lyon’s head coach, Paulo Fonseca, praised Endrick after his debut, highlighting his immediate impact on the field: “After a week with us, it wasn’t easy, but his performance was very positive. Scoring is essential, and as he continues to improve physically and understand our team’s strategies, I believe he will thrive. He possesses remarkable explosiveness, speed, and strength in one-on-one situations.”

Endrick has much to prove to his parent club in Spain as he strives for a long-term future with Real Madrid. Additionally, he is eyeing World Cup opportunities, with Ancelotti now leading the Brazilian national team on their journey toward global success this summer. Lyon is set to face Brest in their next Ligue 1 match on Sunday.
