Manchester United has issued a statement regarding the hacking of captain Bruno Fernandes’ social media account on platform X. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, shortly after he participated in the team’s 2-1 loss to Brighton in the FA Cup, and was marked by a series of unusual posts shared on his page.

Fernandes, who proudly serves as the club’s captain, played the full 90 minutes during the match. His account, which boasts 4.5 million followers, was compromised just hours later. In response, Manchester United cautioned fans against engaging with any of the posts or direct messages that appeared on the hacked account.

The unauthorized posts, which have since been removed, included comments about the club’s current struggles and criticisms directed at INEOS, the company co-owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, which has stakes in Manchester United.

Fernandes’ last legitimate update on the platform was from October, celebrating his milestone of 300 appearances for the club.

In other news, the recent defeat means that Manchester United will have played only 40 competitive matches this season, marking the lowest total in 111 years. The club is actively seeking an interim head coach following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim last week, after a 14-month tenure.
