Growing Support for Michael Carrick as Interim Manager at Manchester UnitedGrowing Support for Michael Carrick as Interim Manager at Manchester United

Michael Carrick is gaining considerable support within Manchester United for the role of interim manager. Sources have informed ESPN that the former midfielder has substantial backing from the existing squad to take on this responsibility.

Current discussions are focused on the composition of Carrick’s backroom staff, with his brother, Graeme, expected to play a role. Graeme previously collaborated with Michael at Middlesbrough and has experience with the English Football Association.

The club is aiming to finalize the appointment of an interim manager to lead the team through the remainder of the season within the next 48 hours. Both Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have been in talks with the club regarding the position.

As of Sunday evening, sources indicated that no final decision has been made regarding the candidate who will succeed Darren Fletcher, who temporarily managed the team for two games following the dismissal of head coach Ruben Amorim.

Meetings have recently taken place between CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox with Carrick and Solskjaer, suggesting that an appointment is imminent. This is intended to provide the new coach ample preparation time before the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer previously served as United’s manager from 2018 to 2021, during which Carrick assisted him. After Solskjaer’s dismissal in November 2018, Carrick briefly took charge of the team for three games before transitioning to a managerial role at Middlesbrough, where he stayed until his departure last summer.

Insiders have noted that Carrick’s character and coaching abilities have impressed senior players during his previous tenure at the club, leading to strong support for him among the squad. Meanwhile, reports from Norway suggest that the Solskjaer camp remains optimistic about the possibility of his appointment, although Carrick’s internal backing is providing him an advantage in the competitive selection process.
