Minnesota United Appoints Cam Knowles as Head CoachMinnesota United Appoints Cam Knowles as Head Coach

In a bid to maintain continuity within the organization, Minnesota United has appointed Cam Knowles as its new head coach. Knowles previously served as interim head coach before Eric Ramsay’s tenure and subsequently held a key assistant role on Ramsay’s staff. His familiarity with the club made him the preferred internal candidate to lead the team forward.

Khaled El-Ahmad, Chief Soccer Officer, expressed the club’s confidence in Knowles’ capabilities.

“We believe in Cameron, we believe in this squad, and we are excited about the future we are building together,” El-Ahmad stated.

Knowles expressed his appreciation for being selected for the head coach position after having previously served as an assistant and interim manager.

“Minnesota United is a fantastic organization with a strong group of players and a loyal following. I hope to build on the success the club has achieved over the years,” Knowles remarked.

The appointment of Knowles comes on the heels of Eric Ramsay’s departure from the club, marking a significant transition for Minnesota United. El-Ahmad acknowledged Ramsay’s pivotal role in establishing a team culture that embodies the club’s values and the community’s spirit.

“Eric was instrumental in shaping a team that reflects the values of our club and our community,” El-Ahmad noted. “Alongside Dennis Lawrence and his staff, he created a robust football environment based on hard work, clarity, and accountability. Their leadership has positioned us well for the future, and we are thankful for Eric’s contributions during his time at Minnesota United. We have always supported his professional ambitions and wish him success in his next opportunity. We are confident in the strong foundation we have and will continue to build with purpose and continuity moving forward.”

Ramsay, reflecting on his two-season tenure, expressed gratitude for his experience with Minnesota United.

“We’re incredibly grateful for our time in Minnesota,” Ramsay said. “We’ve made friends for life, experienced a part of the world we may never otherwise have seen, and shared something truly special as a family. Two seasons have flown by, but I’ll look back with nothing but fond memories and real pride in what we achieved together.”

At 34, Ramsay is set to return to Europe following a commendable stint in Major League Soccer (MLS), as West Brom currently finds itself 18th in the Championship table. His departure leaves Minnesota United searching for leadership just days before the start of the 2026 preseason.

Knowles’ promotion is seen as a strategic decision and a well-deserved recognition for a coach who is highly respected within the organization. With preseason preparations on the horizon, Minnesota prioritized appointing a head coach to ensure continuity within a team that has demonstrated consistent progress.
