Pressure Mounts on Thomas Frank as Spurs Seek New DirectionPressure Mounts on Thomas Frank as Spurs Seek New Direction

Amidst a wave of managerial departures at the onset of 2026, including Enzo Maresca’s exit from Chelsea and Xabi Alonso’s dismissal from Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur may soon find itself considering a coaching change.

Thomas Frank has encountered challenges since leaving Brentford to take charge at Spurs in the summer of 2025. Currently positioned 14th in the English Premier League, his tenure has been marred by a four-match winless streak, leading to visible discontent among supporters.

With several esteemed managers now available, including Ruben Amorim—who gained recognition for leading Sporting to domestic title success but struggled during his tenure in Manchester—speculation is rife about potential candidates for the Tottenham role. Campbell, a former Spurs defender, believes that Amorim’s name is already under consideration at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He remarked to Sky Bet: “They’ll be looking at him. They’re probably talking to him now, that wouldn’t surprise me… Tottenham will be in discussions to explore any developments.”

Campbell emphasized the demands of managing a club like Tottenham, stating, “Thomas Frank is a top manager, but it’s a different challenge at Tottenham. The expectations for success are high, and fans are eager for progress. It would not be unexpected for the club to pursue discussions with other managerial candidates.”

Considering Frank’s brief tenure of 31 games, Campbell offered insights into the unique pressures associated with leading a high-profile club. He noted that managing Tottenham requires a blend of resilience, tactical acumen, and an understanding of the club’s ethos. “You have to navigate the pressures from players, the hierarchy, and the fans simultaneously. At Tottenham, one must balance various aspects of management, and it seems Frank is encountering pressures he may not have anticipated.”

While Campbell predicts a swift return for Amorim to the Premier League, he reflects on the challenges the manager faced at Manchester United, admitting that Amorim may have underestimated the magnitude of managing such a prominent club. “Those days where a manager could exert complete control are gone. He should have understood the significance of Manchester United and its unique culture. Winning is imperative, and one must adapt swiftly.”

Throughout his tenure at United, Amorim frequently called for patience but ultimately crossed a line by criticizing the lack of support from the board. His controversial remarks, including a claim in January 2025 about managing “the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United,” reflected the difficulty of his role, culminating in a disappointing 15th-place finish and failure to secure European competition.
