Wayne Rooney Supports Michael Carrick s Interim Appointment at Manchester UnitedWayne Rooney Supports Michael Carrick s Interim Appointment at Manchester United

Wayne Rooney has expressed that Michael Carrick’s potential appointment as interim manager of Manchester United should be a “no-brainer” and suggested that Roy Keane could also play a significant role in the coaching staff.

Sources indicate that Manchester United is finalizing Carrick’s appointment as interim manager until the end of the season following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. A formal announcement is expected within the next 48 hours, with Carrick anticipated to lead training at Carrington on Wednesday.

In recent developments, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer met with key officials but it appears Carrick has emerged as the frontrunner for the position. Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher has managed the team in the last two matches, which include a Premier League draw against Burnley and an FA Cup defeat to Brighton.

On his podcast, “The Wayne Rooney Show,” Rooney remarked, “Whether Michael, Fletch, John O’Shea, or myself steps in, we need individuals who understand the football club. Roy Keane has had his opinions, and I have previously suggested his inclusion. It is crucial to have people who care for Manchester United and comprehend what it means to play for this club.”

Rooney stressed that the club has lost its identity and familial atmosphere, adding that this is an opportunity to reinvigorate the spirit of Manchester United. When asked if he would join Carrick’s coaching staff, Rooney confirmed, “Of course I would. It’s a no-brainer. I want to clarify that I’m not desperate for a job, but if asked, I would gladly accept. The appointment of the manager is of utmost importance.”

Carrick, after retiring as a player, was part of José Mourinho’s and Solskjaer’s coaching teams at Old Trafford and served as caretaker manager before Ralf Rangnick’s interim appointment. During his brief tenure, Carrick remained unbeaten, leading the team to victories over Villarreal and Arsenal, along with a draw against Chelsea.

Rooney praised Carrick’s intelligence and previous performance at Middlesbrough, stating, “Michael is a very clever person and did an excellent job at Middlesbrough. There are no top managers available at this moment who have historically been successful and won trophies. The decision rests between Ole or Michael, and Carrick’s deep connection with the club makes him an ideal candidate.”

He emphasized that Carrick loves the club and sees this as an opportunity to prove his capabilities. Rooney concluded, “Whoever steps in now has a chance to demonstrate their value. If not, Thomas Tuchel remains a strong candidate.”

Manchester United is set to face their rivals, Manchester City, in the Premier League this Saturday.
