Real Madrid players have taken the opportunity to share farewell messages to Xabi Alonso following his recent departure from the club.

Alonso’s exit came on the heels of a 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. Departing midway through his inaugural season as head coach, Alonso leaves his team four points behind Barcelona in the La Liga standings. His tenure has been marred by reports of discord within the squad, particularly involving players such as Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and Jude Bellingham. Nevertheless, Mbappe swiftly expressed his appreciation for Alonso on Instagram, stating, “It’s been short but it was a pleasure to play for you and learn from you. Thank you for giving me the confidence since Day 1. I will remember you as a manager who had clear ideas and knows many things about football. Best of luck for your next chapter.” Other teammates, including Rodrygo, Thibaut Courtois, Antonio Rüdiger, and Dani Carvajal, also shared their sentiments. However, Bellingham and Vinicius’s updates were notably absent initially.

Bellingham eventually posted a concise farewell message a day later, writing, “Thank you, Mister. It was a pleasure, all the very best for the future!”

This delayed response from Bellingham has attracted criticism from some fans, who expressed disappointment over both the timing and the content of his message. Comments on social media highlighted the backlash he faced, with some suggesting that he should be the one leaving instead of Alonso.

Alvaro Arbeloa has been appointed as the new manager of Real Madrid, tasked with revitalizing the team’s fortunes and contending for trophies in the latter part of the season. In a press conference, Arbeloa expressed enthusiasm for the challenges ahead, stating, “We have the whole season ahead of us. We’re in a great position in all three competitions, and tomorrow we fight for the first one. We’re well placed in La Liga and the Champions League. My main concern is having all players available, working hard with them, and ensuring they understand what I want. Ultimately, it’s about them, having the chance to express themselves, enjoying the game, and being happy. Wearing this crest is the best thing that can happen to you; it’s a huge privilege. My only focus is ambition and the desire to win every title because that’s what this crest demands.”

Arbeloa will lead Real Madrid for the first time on Wednesday against Albacete in the Copa del Rey.
