Timo Werner s Move to MLS A Step Closer to San Jose EarthquakesTimo Werner s Move to MLS A Step Closer to San Jose Earthquakes

According to a report from The Athletic, Timo Werner of RB Leipzig is on the verge of making a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), with the San Jose Earthquakes emerging as his most likely destination.

Werner has been linked with a transition to the United States for some time, initially connected to Leipzig’s sister club, the New York Red Bulls, and subsequently to various teams across the league. Now, it appears that he is set to join the Earthquakes.

To comply with MLS regulations, Werner will be registered as a designated player, which will facilitate a salary arrangement comparable to his current earnings at Red Bull Arena.

Sky Germany has reported that a discreet meeting occurred between the Earthquakes and Werner a few weeks ago. Given that Werner’s contract is set to expire this summer, it is anticipated that the MLS club will easily reach an agreement regarding a potential transfer fee for the 29-year-old forward, who has fallen out of favor.

Werner rejoined Leipzig in 2022 for €20 million after an unsuccessful stint at Chelsea. His return to the club where he initially found success was expected to reignite his form; however, he has encountered difficulties and spent the last two seasons on loan at Tottenham.

So far this season, Werner has played only 13 minutes in the Bundesliga.
