Jamie Redknapp s Transfer Speculation Semenyo s Move to Manchester CityJamie Redknapp s Transfer Speculation Semenyo s Move to Manchester City

Jamie Redknapp, speaking on Sky Sports, hinted at a potential twist in the transfer saga of Antoine Semenyo following his remarkable late winner for Bournemouth against Tottenham. He suggested that the winger might reconsider a much-anticipated move to Manchester City in favor of Liverpool, a claim he attributed to a conversation with his father, Harry Redknapp. Just a day after this assertion was made live, Semenyo completed his transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

After the Bournemouth match, Redknapp expressed his uncertainty about Semenyo’s future, stating, “Everyone thinks it’s a foregone conclusion, but I’m not so sure. There might still be a twist… Liverpool could still be in the equation. I’m surprised they haven’t pursued him more aggressively, considering Mo Salah’s uncertain future at the club. With a player of Semenyo’s caliber, why wouldn’t they be interested?” He clarified that while he had heard rumors of a medical at Manchester City, the situation was still fluid.

In a subsequent Sky broadcast, Redknapp acknowledged his earlier misjudgment about Semenyo’s transfer, referencing transfer expert Fabrizio Romano while joking about his erroneous prediction. “There was supposed to be a twist! And there wasn’t! Sometimes you receive information that you hope is accurate, and this time it was incorrect. My father was at the Bournemouth game when Semenyo scored, and he suggested there might be a twist involving Liverpool. I thought I would share that on air, trying to channel my inner Fabrizio Romano, and I ended up being wrong.”

Semenyo’s transition to Manchester City has been seamless thus far, as he made an immediate impact by scoring and assisting in a staggering 10-1 FA Cup victory over Exeter City, followed by a goal in the 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Newcastle.

After the match against Newcastle, Semenyo remarked, “The atmosphere here is fantastic. Everyone is confident and striving for excellence. I feel welcomed and supported, which has boosted my confidence. It’s been a lot to take in, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. I’m taking the confidence I gained at Bournemouth and bringing it here, playing with a smile on my face.”

He reflected on the match, stating, “It was a challenging game, but we knew we would create opportunities. I found myself in the right position to score, and we emerged victorious, which makes us all very happy.”

Semenyo did net a second goal during the match, but it was disallowed by VAR, much to the frustration of manager Pep Guardiola. He commented on the decision, saying, “Four officials and VAR failed to make a definitive call — they had to defer to the referee. We understand how the system operates, and this experience will only make us stronger.”

Currently, Manchester City sits second in the Premier League table, trailing leaders Arsenal by six points. Semenyo and his teammates are set to face Manchester United in an important derby this upcoming weekend.
