Mats Deijl Poised for Departure as Go Ahead Eagles Pursue New Talent

Mats Deijl has become an integral part of Go Ahead Eagles; however, it appears that the right-back will indeed be departing from Deventer this summer. In light of this, the club is actively looking to recruit a new player to fill Deijl’s position.

The candidate under consideration is Theo Bergvall, the brother of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luca Bergvall. Currently contracted to Djurgardens IF in his native Sweden, the deal between the clubs has reportedly been reached, although Bergvall may also be contemplating other opportunities.

Deijl recently extended his contract with Go Ahead Eagles in August 2025. At that time, he expressed his contentment with the team, stating, “I still feel at home with Go Ahead Eagles. We have created wonderful memories together in recent seasons, including winning the playoffs, achieving commendable performances in the Eredivisie, and, most notably, clinching the cup.”
