Hirving Lozano’s future at San Diego FC remains a topic of considerable discussion, yet the Mexican international has made his intentions clear: he is not seeking an exit. Despite reports suggesting that head coach Mikey Varas no longer considers him a vital component of the team, Lozano is fully dedicated to the California-based project.

Club sporting director Tyler Heaps recently confirmed that, following an internal assessment, Lozano is no longer included in the club’s immediate plans. “We’ve had numerous discussions with Hirving and his representatives during the offseason and throughout last year,” Heaps informed reporters. “We have clearly communicated that he will not be part of our sporting strategy going forward. This decision was not made lightly.”

However, transitioning away from the winger has proven to be anything but simple. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that Lozano is unwilling to consider offers that would necessitate a move during the current transfer window.

This sentiment is supported by information from Súper Deportivo, which quotes sources close to Lozano stating that he feels settled in San Diego and is confident that his performances can still earn him a starting position. The winger also values the rapport he has established with the community and its supporters since joining as the franchise’s first designated player.

Although Cruz Azul has been mentioned as a potential destination for Lozano, his reported annual salary of $7.6 million poses a significant challenge for any Liga MX team. His current contract extends for three more years, ensuring nearly $23 million in total earnings.

Unless San Diego FC opts for an expensive contract termination or identifies a buyer willing to meet his valuation—previously estimated at around $12 million—Lozano will likely remain with the club.

Since joining San Diego FC in June 2024 as a key figure in the MLS expansion initiative, Lozano has made a notable impact. During the 2025 season, he appeared in 34 matches across all competitions, recording 11 goals and nine assists, figures that positioned him among the team’s most effective players.
