Athletic Club Prepares for Mallorca Match Amid Player AbsencesAthletic Club Prepares for Mallorca Match Amid Player Absences

Athletic Club is turning its attention to the upcoming match against Mallorca this Saturday with a training session at Lezama, notable for the many absences among the players. Only those who did not start in the previous match against Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa participated in the outdoor session.

Among those present was Paredes, who received a red card in the match in León before the hour mark. This training session, one of the last before the trip to Palma, did not include Yuri, who had expedited his return in the Copa del Rey match after overcoming a muscular injury.

Coach Valverde had opted for Yuri to strengthen the central line following Paredes’ expulsion. The Zarauztarra player had to engage in high-intensity play and is now following a tailored recovery plan to return as quickly as possible. Alongside Yuri, Berenguer, Vesga, and Laporte were also absent from the outdoor fields, in addition to long-term injured players. Berenguer is suffering from an injury to the first toe on his right foot, forcing him to play many matches with injections, which has severely limited his performance. Vesga is sidelined due to back issues, while Laporte is counting down the days until his return from the muscular injury sustained against Atlético.

Meanwhile, Egiluz, a central defender yet to make an appearance this season, has resumed training on a different field after undergoing surgery in early August for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The player has completed the first three phases of rehabilitation but will require additional time before he can return to full training with the team. He is currently working independently on circuit training and his next goal will be to reintegrate into team activities. By February, Egiluz will have been out for six months.
